My Email Is Taunting Me
I just received the following message in my inbox with the subject of "Message Removed":
"Uh... We had a message here. We are not sure what it was. We aren't sure what happened to it either (although it was obviously not our fault). We only know it's missing - and rather than leave it out of your already crowded inbox, we just thought we would give you this friendly note as a replacement. There's nothing really you can do about it, but perhaps you can sit there wondering for 90 seconds or so..."
It's kind of like the dozens of times I've asked for a girl's number and received it, but when I called it later it was disconnected - or worse, it was the lady who gives out the time or maybe the Chinese take-away. Have you ever tried to get a date from the guy who answers the phone at the Chinese take-away? It's humiliating.

I get those on an occasional basis. I believe it happens when I download mail for a second time too quickly. If that makes any sense.
Say, I download 27 messages, then click download again, I'll get 27 of those "Message Deleted" e-mails.
I'm not sure if it is related to Thunderbird [mail client], Smartermail [my mail server] or K9 [a spam filter proxy I use]. My interpretation of the cause could be wrong too. -
We use SmarterMail. The solution for us was to log in to the SmarterMail web interface and delete a couple messages that were stuck in the inbox. The message was empty and had a date of something like 12/1/1600. The only way to delete them was to use the "Delete All in Folder" option so we moved all legit emails to another folder and did the delete. After deleting the empty messages we did not receive anymore messages.
